About Rio del Valle

Rio del Valle Middle School opened in 1961 and was the only middle school in the Rio community for 46 years. Now the Rio del Valle Knights work alongside Rio Vista Middle School to offer students top education. In addition, Rio del Valle is a proud member of the elective program AVID, which stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. The program helps fourth- through twelfth-grade students prepare for four-year college eligibility.

Parent Involvement at Rio del Valle

We would like to welcome all new and returning parents and students for the new school year. We hope you will join us as we work together with our teachers and staff to support the growth and development of students here on campus. We encourage you to participate in the Parent Teacher Association (PTA), School Site Council (SSC), English Language Acquisition Committee (ELAC), and other site committees and projects. Please contact the school office for additional information. Meeting dates will be posted on the monthly newsletter/calendar. All parents are welcome to attend. By working together, we can help provide our students with a quality education and a positive and safe environment.

Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year at Rio del Valle Middle School. I’m honored to serve as the Principal and to bring a culture of care, excellence, and community to our Knight family.

I’m excited to develop relationships and grow the remarkable programs already in place at our school site. Furthermore, I’m dedicated to supporting our staff and students and will hold high expectations for all.

We will continue to provide opportunities for our students to excel and to recognize and celebrate the cultural capitol they and our community bring.

I look forward to listening and partnering with all stakeholders in order to provide positive learning experiences for our students to thrive in a safe and welcoming learning environment.

This year, we are modernizing and renovating Rio del Valle from across every corner of our campus to provide 21st century learning spaces. From HVAC in all our classrooms and front office, to a kitchen and cafeteria renovation that will enhance the Rio del Valle experience. These are but a few projects that will keep our campus busy but moving us in the right direction.

I will be entering my 14th year in education and first with the Rio School District. I have taught across three counties and call Oxnard my home. I spent 9 years in the classroom and four as an administrator in Ventura County. Before that, I received two bachelor’s degrees from UC Irvine, a master’s in journalism from UC Berkeley and my administrative and second master’s degree
from UCLA.

I look forward to being an advocate and ally for our Rio del Valle students and staff.
